Celebration of Ozone Day and National Engineers Day at Gujarat Science City: Awareness Spread Among Students about Environment and Technological Contribution

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], September 16: Gujarat Science City organized grand celebrations of World Ozone Day and National Engineers Day. On this occasion, more than 2000 students from various engineering colleges and schools across Gujarat enthusiastically participated in the events.

World Ozone Day: Efforts to Raise Environmental Awareness

As part of the World Ozone Day celebration, college students organized panel discussions and plays on environmental awareness for visiting school students. The students were informed about the importance of the ozone layer, current threats it faces, and measures to protect it. Experts and students emphasized the importance of maintaining environmental balance along with industrial and technological development. In addition, interesting discussions were held on topics like climate change and sustainable development.

World Ozone Day is observed every year on 16th September in remembrance of the Montreal Protocol adopted in 1987 to reduce the use of chemicals damaging the ozone layer. In 1994, the United Nations officially declared it a global observance day.

Special knowledge-based games were also organized to engage students, combining learning with fun.

National Engineers Day: Commitment to Innovation and Development

Gujarat Science City also celebrated National Engineers Day, observed every year on 15th September to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s great engineer and Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

The program began with the screening of a film based on the life and contribution of Shri Visvesvaraya. Following that, in a panel discussion, experts provided students with insightful knowledge on sustainable innovation in engineering, net-zero targets, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Experts highlighted that future engineers should not just focus on new inventions, but ensure that these innovations help maintain the balance between humanity and the environment.

A Platform for Knowledge, Dialogue, and Inspiration

This joint celebration of Ozone Day and Engineers Day provided an excellent opportunity for young minds to understand the relationship between science, engineering, and the environment. With guidance from experts, students were inspired to bring about positive change through a scientific approach.
